TopoL Software Ltd. is the company which develops geographical information system TopoL, digital photogrammetric workstation PhoTopoL and applications based on this technology. These systems are distributed in Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Spain, Russia, Slovak Republic, Hungary, Poland, Latvia and Estonia.

New development

During last year the company started the development of new generation of TopoL GIS technology - TopoL New Technology (NT). The technology architecture and modules are built on the basis of recommendations and specifications of the OpenGIS Consortium (if they are available for particular module). Technology design is based on following principles:

  • Open modular architecture is based on the standard Windows OLE/COM/OCX object model in Win32 environment (Windows 95/98/NT/2000) and is compatible with the Pluggable Computing Model. This architecture facilitates the integration of geodata into complex information systems, the development of specific user-oriented applications and inter-operability with third-party components.
  • Spatial data access is based on the standard OLE DB technology for Win32 environment and provided in compliant way with the OpenGIS Simple Feature Specification. Data access to legacy TopoL binary data format is designed to be compatible with this specification. It enables any software system to access TopoL data through this standard method without any need for data conversion. This mechanism also enables spatial data to be stored into standard database systems.

New technology changes totally the approach to the design of software architecture and spatial data access. The company will continuously migrate all functionality of original TopoL GIS system (including remote sensing and photogrammetric tools) into the context of new technology using its large experience in GIS and image processing. The open architecture will also support integration with third-party technologies.
